Why This Program Exists

This is not a collection of miscellaneous intern tasks.

Athira’s core team is focused on shipping customer-facing products and growing the company. At the same time, there are important products, research questions, design improvements, and commercial opportunities that deserve dedicated attention.

The internship program creates additional capacity around that work. Interns receive a defined area of ownership, clear expectations, and the opportunity to produce something valuable enough for Athira to continue using after the internship.

  1. 01

    Own meaningful work

You will receive a real project or responsibility with a clear purpose.

  2. 02

    Show progress

You will communicate regularly, demonstrate what you have completed, and respond to direct feedback.

  3. 03

    Earn deeper responsibility

The strongest contributors may progress into paid continuation or longer-term opportunities.

Developer Internship Program

Build the next layer of Athira.

The Developer Internship Program is designed for students who want to take ownership of substantial technical or design work. Interns begin with a defined project in an isolated environment and may progressively connect their work to Athira’s real infrastructure as the project matures.

  • Primarily for third and fourth year students
  • Remote
  • October through December
  • Software and design tracks
  • Potential paid continuation

Software Engineering

Software engineering interns will work individually or in small teams on one of three major areas.

01

Digital Twins

Build a controlled professional representation that answers questions from approved knowledge, provides sources, respects privacy boundaries, and allows owner correction.

02

AI Interviewer

Build a configurable AI representative that conducts structured interviews, asks relevant follow-up questions, collects evidence, and produces material for human review.

03

Internal Systems and Product Quality

Improve Athira's internal automation, developer infrastructure, evaluation systems, documentation, onboarding, testing, observability, and operational efficiency.

Program progression

  1. October

    Prove the project

Build an isolated prototype, test the central idea, and demonstrate meaningful progress.

  2. November

    Connect the system

Selected interns begin receiving a stipend and may connect their work to approved Athira services and infrastructure.

  3. December

    Prepare for continued use

The strongest people and projects move toward production quality, integration, documentation, and handoff.

Continuation between stages is selective and not guaranteed. Exact compensation and continuation terms will be provided in writing before each paid stage.
